Alfred steiglitz
What’s interesting about Alfred Steiglitz’s works are his choice of colour and tone, which makes his photographs seem timeless. Steiglitz’s collection of black & white and sephia portraits gives out a very dark vibe of the feeling of doubt and despair. One of his most comparable composition styles is the depth of field. Both the main area of focus (typically, the subject’s face), and the blurred background provide a sense of harmonious interaction between one another. While the focal area (the woman’s face) gives the viewers a direct message that this woman seems pragmatically justified about her life, the background’s monochromatic colours helps intensify that message in a way that it inherits darkening tones upon the woman. The fact that the photo is unbalanced in the way that the blacks are overpowering the image also serves as evidence that the image is used to perceive gloomy undertones and emotions. This image does a great job at delivering the emotional and mental aspects of the viewers, providing them with the necessary elements and principles of design for a deeper evaluation and thought on the photograph.
